Juri 2012 body trials

Juri 2012 was released as an event head during a Feeple65 special release. As a result some ppl think she was made for the F65 body. I actually found the head to be quite small compared to the F65 heads so I thought I would try it on my F60 Mirwen's body.

When she is bald the head appears a bit pin-headed on the Feeple65 body and a bit bobble-headed on the Feeple60 body. The look works for either well enough tho and it is really due to personal preference.

Here's a look at her with some wigs on. The pin-headed/bobble-headedness is resoved quite nicely once she has a wig on.

At first I didn't know if I was going to like this head but once I had her painted and dressed up she let me know her name was Anemone.....Not so sure I can let her go when she's told me her name.

I prefer the spunkier version on the F60 body. The F65 body is also a bit difficult to handle. I know she is supposed to sit well once her legs are locked but mine must be too loosely strung since she keeps falling over eve with her legs locked in place.

Introducing Anemone ~ Juri 2012 on Feeple60 and Feeple65 body

During the week that I was left stranded in South Brooklyn by Sandy I spent my time painting some heads and doing a little cleaning. Here is Anemone, my slightly modded Juri 2012. I sanded down her brow bone a little to give her a more feminine appearance. Her default look is a pink Leeke bob wig and her body is a Feeple60 Medium bust. Can you tell what her favorite colors are?

I also tried her out on a Feeple65 body with the large bust (the only size so far) and a different wig. There's a huge difference in her character. It's nice but I prefer the smaller spunkier look.

Explanation

As much as I prefer not to talk a lot about my personal life I realize that I owe my customers an explanation. I know quite a few of you are very young and as such do not realize that the death of someone close to you has a greater and longer impact than the first two months. When a close family member passes away it can take years to sort out an estate. Yesterday, 9/11 was the one year anniversary of the last time my dad entered a hospital. I did make the mistake of trying to jump back into the doll world a few months after my dad passed thinking I could do something I enjoyed and get on with my life after a year of watching him slowly sicken, improve and sicken again.

For those who are still waiting, thank you so much for your patience. Most of you have been very kind and understanding. My family and I are still in the process of figuring out the estate. In addition as time goes by, a family pet in his old age requires more care lately which means that I have very little free time on my hands. I will be updating again soon.

Posing Comparisons, FL Minifee, RS/BBB Mini and 5StarDoll MIni

It's been another long while but I have a bunch of things to post. I'm also taking time off work to concentrate on trying to improve my own work flow and to apply to jobs as well as finish off some commissions.

Today I bring you guys a review on the posing ability of MSD dolls from some of the more affordable companies compared to the posing ability of one of the most popular and expensive company. Generally I will agree that the more you pay for a doll the higher the quality but of course there are a lot of factors. Resin quality, mold quality, engineering and production quality all account for how much a doll costs. Fairyland dolls are amongst the most expensive as well as popular dolls. They are known for their consistency in quality (though there was a period of lowered quality), their beautiful sculpts and their posing ability. The engineering and precision of their joints as well as the resin quality is reflected in the price. The molds for their bodies are probably replaced fairly often because the fit of the joints are crucial to the mobility whereas joints from ResinSoul can afford to be less precise simply because the fit isn't as crucial.

Finally back!

Needless to say things are not going super smoothly. Things in my personal life has been stressful. Outside of that I'm trying to finish up very late commissions as well as sell of some dolls for funds.

Here are two more of Maywong's heads. There is still one final head for me to work on for her and I will move on to the others.

These are Sango and Miroku, two of my favorite characters from Inuyasha. Sango is a fierce, independant girl with a fairly serious personality. She is the love interest of Miroku appears at first to only be interested in flirting with pretty girls. As we get to know him a bit better, his character develops and we see a stronger side of him.

In addition to these two smaller heads, I've painted a Doll Leaves LE Noir head. Noir was displayed as a boy by Doll Leaves but I thought the sculpt could work well as a girl. The head is on the larger side so it takes a 9-10 wig. Luckily companies have been putting out 65-70cm girl and boy dolls these days since the head looks a little oversized on a 60cm girl body. Here are a few shots of Noir on a girl body as well as some shots on a boy body.

Peeks in - Commission Updates

Yes, it's been a while. My family is blowing up, everyone is stressed to high heaven. My body has been so tense that it's been aching for two weeks. Volatile sister (read crazy and sometimes violent) + high stress mom + dealing with my dad's estate = barely a pinprick of light to show the end of the tunnel. Maintaining some sanity through work and painting heads.

Here's a photo of one of Maywong's heads. It is Inuyasha's mom. I've read quite a bit of the manga but we only see her in passing and most of the time she is just sad so I'm not sure how to paint her so I just left a pretty neutral expression. The request was for light brown eyes, blue eyeshadow and red lips. The eyeshadow looks more blue in real life. I wasn't sure if i should go bright but since I prefer not to clash with the red lips I used a darker royal blue.

I will be making an effort to post more and work through these commissions. As I said, after this round is done I will only be accepting BJD commissions.

Commission Update - Unoas Part 2

At long last, I was able to pick up a good camera from my friend and get some decent shots of the Unoas before I sent them back. I will consider purchasing my own camera once I've raised the funds for a good digital SLR.

02/19/2012- I painted the teeth and inserted them before taking photos. Here is a group shot. Overall the Sist plates are darker and more dramatic because it is how I envision her though there are many renditions of Sist by other artists with a very soft look. Lusis has a softer look overall.

Commission Update - Unoas Part 1

So I was finally able to ship out some heads to their owners today. The Unoas are gone and so is Amethsyt. Here is the progression for the four Unoas from L.K.

UNOAs (L.K.)

I met L.K. through ebay since she bid on and won one of my large painted eye Obitsus. It makes me very happy to know she liked my work enough to commission me to work on four Unoa faceplates. They arrived with two of them still in unopened packages. Here is what they look like all lined up.

Obitsu 60HD-F03 - HOLD

Still no camera -___- . I will probably be investing in my own when I can raise the funds. I've been spoiled by relying on my friend's camera but since I have need of a camera at all times I think I need a good digital SLR of my own.

Today I am refreezing a commission head so I can do more mods on it. I will explain about freezing vinyl heads for modding in a later post about that head. So erm, to relax I painted this head I've had sitting around for a month. I should be working on more commissions but honestly 1/6 scale realistic styled heads really stress me out when it comes to commissions so I will break them out after I finish Asuka who arrived first in the mail.

This head I painted is the much overlooked Obitsu 60HD-F03. I don't see her around much. Usually the more realistic Obitsu sculpts steal the show and when it is a more anime looking head, the designer head is popular. The default 50cm head is also around a bit because it is the default head and the new princess head has been spotted too. This poor obscure head gets no love but it's all about to change! Take a look ladies and gents!

Amethyst - Obitsu Mini Haruka

Another commission update! Meet Amethyst. She is a mini Haruka head belonging to SophieOuch. Let me tell you, applying those lashes was super difficult but I believe I can apply lashes to any doll now lol.

Unoas to go!

So i've been gone for a long time. Sorry guys. It's what happens when I get freelance jobs and I do need to pay bills. However I have decided to stop taking smaller freelance jobs that hold little interest for me in terms of design since they usually end up being really terrible and due to inexperienced clients, they drag on. As a result I should have more doll time and I will reopen. However I will only be taking 5 commissions a month so I have time for my own projects if I'm not getting freelance work and if I am getting freelance work, I will still be able to complete the commissions on the weekends.

Here's a shot of the Unoa faceplates I've had for so long. They belong to L.K. who kindly allowed me to do whatever I wished. I learned a lot working on these plates and I ended up redoing three of them. Lol...yeah...I did. The only one who was painted once and only once is the Sist plate (Sullen Sun). I don't have a good camera with me at the moment so this was taken on my android. I will post better pics soon.

Let me know which one you guy's like the most!

Lusis (White Swan), Sist (Sullen Sun), Lusis Wink (Merry Moon), Sist Bully (Black Swan)

I had such a hard time finding the right eyes for these guys because they like low dome 12mm. I have very few 12mm eyes. The owner even ordered and sent three pairs of 12mm eyes none of which worked well color wise and Sist is harder to fit eyes to.

Anyone who wants to trade 12mm non-acrylic eyes for a $10 discount off faceups, send a pic of the eyes and I'll let you know if I can use them.

Next up : Obitsu alice mods + faceup, MayWong,s heads, J.T.'s heads, + more action figure heads. Yeah, it's going to be a lot of work....after which I will stop accepting action figure heads and realistic 1/6 vinyl heads. I will explain why in another post.
