Finished a bunch of commissions - updates

I have glossed and finished up maywong's last head but there were some small changes needed on one that I need to address before I send them back.

I will be working on JanetT's Petrucchio soon. I made a sketch that I think will work for him.

Here are the March commissions all done, as well as some from April.

I am clearing off my plate as fast as I can. I tend to be slower on the 1/6 heads because they take a lot of concentration and cramped work considering the size. I will be keeping everyone posted.

For now other March commissions will be on hold for a bit. L.K. has a slot in March but the schedule is relaxed so I will be working on her two Mir heads at the same time as well as her two pandas.

For the Ada commission, I am currently testing final sealants to see which ones are the hardiest. Some of them scare me a bit with how toxic they are so if the non-toxic version holds up well, I can rest assured that I am offering my clients durable work on body blushing. Since the test will not be done for another two weeks (cure time) I have told Medusa's (Impldoll Ada) owner to hold off on sending her.

As such I have cleared the March commissions that I can work on now and have set aside a small amount of time to finish off the 1/6 vinyl heads and to work on some personal things until 3/21 or thereabouts ^____^!

I hope everyone has been having a good year so far. In terms of my dad's estate, things are still unsettled due to internal family rifts (with cousins and shared property). The 20 yo cat is fairly stable but has a UTI so he is on Clavamox and needs to go to the vet again in about 10 days. So....I'm not great but it's doable for now. Vet bills are super high so I'll see what I can do. I'm handling things right now but I do wish things were a teeny bit easier...like lets say getting my LLC established so I can get paid for my freelance gig in January.

Alright...That's about it...Sorry for a bit of whining. I really do hope everyone is doing well in 2013 and that you have time for yourself. I will be posting again at least in the next two weeks.

Commission - MayWong update

So, I finally e-mailed the airbrush supply company I had ordered from since it's been two days and they still hadn't shipped out the part even tho they said they would ship it within 24 hours. They sent me a tracking number a few hours later.....I'm a bit upset about it because I had expected to receive it today or tomorrow. It looks like I won't get it until Monday.

Since I have other commissions I worked on those instead.

I don't use airbrush on the soft vinyl heads yet because I haven't tested out the varnishes. I'm afraid they might not take well to squishing so we'll see. Luckily I still have some ZM spray. The stuff is truly vile.

At any rate, here is Kagura. She is one of the main villains in Inuyasha. As such I gave her a grim mouth and evil slanted eyes much like what she has in the manga. ^___^. The request was for red eyes, red lips and magenta eyeshadow. I kept the lip color a more magentish red so it won't clash too much with the magenta eyeshadow.

Commission updates

For BJD faceups:

While cleaning my airbrush I had the pieces drying and misplaced the nozzle. All heads for February are in progress with the base skin tone down. I finally broke down and ordered a new one since I couldn't find it. It should get here Saturday and the February heads should be done by the middle or end of next week.

For 1/6 faceups:

Long overdue, I know.

I will be finishing the vinyl heads first as the resin heads require more work.

First up is JanetT's mags. I worked on her today but she may need more work. I feel like her makeup isn't garish enough.

I did a mockup of what she might look like under the cut.

Juri 2012 body trials

Juri 2012 was released as an event head during a Feeple65 special release. As a result some ppl think she was made for the F65 body. I actually found the head to be quite small compared to the F65 heads so I thought I would try it on my F60 Mirwen's body.

When she is bald the head appears a bit pin-headed on the Feeple65 body and a bit bobble-headed on the Feeple60 body. The look works for either well enough tho and it is really due to personal preference.

Here's a look at her with some wigs on. The pin-headed/bobble-headedness is resoved quite nicely once she has a wig on.

At first I didn't know if I was going to like this head but once I had her painted and dressed up she let me know her name was Anemone.....Not so sure I can let her go when she's told me her name.

I prefer the spunkier version on the F60 body. The F65 body is also a bit difficult to handle. I know she is supposed to sit well once her legs are locked but mine must be too loosely strung since she keeps falling over eve with her legs locked in place.

Introducing Anemone ~ Juri 2012 on Feeple60 and Feeple65 body

During the week that I was left stranded in South Brooklyn by Sandy I spent my time painting some heads and doing a little cleaning. Here is Anemone, my slightly modded Juri 2012. I sanded down her brow bone a little to give her a more feminine appearance. Her default look is a pink Leeke bob wig and her body is a Feeple60 Medium bust. Can you tell what her favorite colors are?

I also tried her out on a Feeple65 body with the large bust (the only size so far) and a different wig. There's a huge difference in her character. It's nice but I prefer the smaller spunkier look.

Explanation

As much as I prefer not to talk a lot about my personal life I realize that I owe my customers an explanation. I know quite a few of you are very young and as such do not realize that the death of someone close to you has a greater and longer impact than the first two months. When a close family member passes away it can take years to sort out an estate. Yesterday, 9/11 was the one year anniversary of the last time my dad entered a hospital. I did make the mistake of trying to jump back into the doll world a few months after my dad passed thinking I could do something I enjoyed and get on with my life after a year of watching him slowly sicken, improve and sicken again.

For those who are still waiting, thank you so much for your patience. Most of you have been very kind and understanding. My family and I are still in the process of figuring out the estate. In addition as time goes by, a family pet in his old age requires more care lately which means that I have very little free time on my hands. I will be updating again soon.

Posing Comparisons, FL Minifee, RS/BBB Mini and 5StarDoll MIni

It's been another long while but I have a bunch of things to post. I'm also taking time off work to concentrate on trying to improve my own work flow and to apply to jobs as well as finish off some commissions.

Today I bring you guys a review on the posing ability of MSD dolls from some of the more affordable companies compared to the posing ability of one of the most popular and expensive company. Generally I will agree that the more you pay for a doll the higher the quality but of course there are a lot of factors. Resin quality, mold quality, engineering and production quality all account for how much a doll costs. Fairyland dolls are amongst the most expensive as well as popular dolls. They are known for their consistency in quality (though there was a period of lowered quality), their beautiful sculpts and their posing ability. The engineering and precision of their joints as well as the resin quality is reflected in the price. The molds for their bodies are probably replaced fairly often because the fit of the joints are crucial to the mobility whereas joints from ResinSoul can afford to be less precise simply because the fit isn't as crucial.
